The overall impact the invasion had on the war was the resulting liberation of Germany and the turn of the war, meaning that the allied forces now held the upper hand. The invasion resulted in the death of thousands of people. Furthermore, the allied troops captured the beaches of Normandy. This was also a crucial point for the allied troops as this attack was a test to see if they could even defeat Hitler. Due to the success, they had and gaining the beaches of Normandy the allied troops moved further inland resulting in the liberation of France. From then on the allies could move in toward Germany and finally capture the west. The east however fell to the soviets and only years later the fall of the berlin wall would result in the unification of Germany.
The allies realized the only way they would get to Germany was through a surprise attack. They staged a false lead for the Germans with an army of balloons. Hitler took the bait and sent thousands of troops to the landing point at the English channel. The true invasion at the beaches of Normandy was thousands of miles west. The soviets also moving in from the east toward berlin provided a cause of discomfort for Hitler. The invasion of the beaches at Normandy gave the allies new hope. The Americans landed on the beaches of Utah and Omaha, the English landed on Gold and Sword, and the Canadians on Juno. the capture of the beaches led to the allied forces pushing back on the Germans' defense. Pais was liberated only weeks later and soon all of France was free. Meanwhile, the Soviets were moving in on Berlin from the east, Hitler could not send forces from the west. In a last attempt to force a peace treaty Hitler started the battle of the bulge, however, the Germans lost an abundance of men, leaving Germany helpless. A year later from the Normandy beach landing Germany finally fell. And Germany was divided up, the Americans, French, English, and soviets each occupied a part of Germany. Overall the position of the German troops, the surprise attack, and the advancing Soviets proved to be the downfall of Germany.
In the event the Americans, English, and Canadians failed to take the beaches of Normandy, the Soviets would have moved in from the east. The other allied forces however would receive a shock and it would set them back many months and possibly years. Next to the loss of thousands of troops and military equipment the morals of the people would be impacted much more. The attack was intended to test whether the allies could get a foothold on german soil, and not being able to do so impacts the allies even more than the loss of their equipment. The allies would have to find a new way to get equipment and raise morale again. More importantly, they would have to find a new way to get a stronghold on Germany. They could make a new treaty with the Soviets, however as many thought the soviets were not better than the Nazis, this would not be likely. The allies would continuously try to invade Germany through France or Italy, exhausting german forces but not gaining German territory. Meanwhile, the Soviets would take Germany and the allies would implement a new treaty with the Soviets only to wage a war with them in the future.
After d-day the important events are as follows; the allies take Cherbourg (June 26, 1944), the allies liberate France after 4 years the germans occupation (august 25, 1944), the start of the battle of the bulge results in german troops making a bulge in allied troops defense(December 16, 1944), the battle of the bulge ends as the germans run out of supplies and fall back (January 16, 1945), the allied powers meet and allow Stalin to take control of eastern Europe (February 4, 1945), the allies invade Germany (March 1945), Hitler commits suicide as allies surround Berlin (April 30, 1945), and Germany surrenders (May 7, 1945).
As the germans faltered in their defense the allies and soviets moved in of the capital of berlin. Realizing this Hitler aw no other way but to take his own life rather than face the humiliation of facing the other and new great powers of the world. On April 30, 1945, Hitler killed himself along with his wife in an underground bunker in berlin.
D-Day foremost intended to test the German defense and to determine whether Germany and occupied France was penetrable. The major allied forces worked together to create a mass invasion on the beaches of Normandy and to have an element of surprise. The invasion in short resulted in the liberation of France, the surrender of Germany, the battle of the bulge, and the suicide of Hitler. Overall the events following the attack in Normandy liberated the concentration camps of jews, and Germany was split into the allied occupied territories. The soviet union received the northeast, France the southwest of Germany, America the southeast, and Britain the northwest. The allies being able to get a stronghold on German soil was a crucial turning point in the war and the defeat of German forces.
The success of the invasion started with the diversion of Hitler. The allies positioned a fake balloon army across the English channel. Hitler took the bait and resultantly sent thousands of troops to the point, and waited for the attack which would never be made. Hilter refused to accept that the pictures received by intelligence might be false and waited for general Patent to cross the channel while the allied forces of Canada, England, and America planned the invasion thousands of miles west. The invasion was successful, although many lives were lost the allies ultimately defeated the Germans at the beaches of Normandy, Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno, and Sword.
After the allies received a stronghold on the beaches they spread further inland, on august 25th the allies liberated France resulting in another victory against the Germans due to the Normandy beach landing. In an attempt to save Germany after the liberation of France, Germany sent forces to the Belgian border to halt the allied forces, and as to not allow the allies to move into Germany. The battle of the bulge caused many deaths on both sides, but ultimately the allies won moving in toward Germany. Meanwhile, due to the western presence of the other allied forces, the soviet union received little opposition while moving in from the east to Germany's capital, berlin.
The invasion at Normandy’s beaches enabled all of these events to happen and also enabled the lives of many soldiers to be lost. Overall the invasion insured allied powers would be able to secure a position on German territory which was a crucial factor in the Second World War. As the invasion ultimately resulted in the liberation of France and the surrender of Germany. The invasion ensured the control maintained by Germany crumpled and the lives of thousands of Jews changed, as well as the millions of families in Germany. The invasion also hoped to penetrate the impenetrable forces of Germany, and it succeeded which was a helpful morale boost for the allies and Hitler received a loss that would ultimately lead him to lose the war. The invasion turned the tide of the war in favor of the allies which was the ultimate goal of D-Day, as well as the millions of lives lost which bore a heavy bout of sadness for the people, however, the sacrifice would become worth it.
