Home and Careers

Class Overview

Welcome to Home and Careers. Home and Careers is designed to help middle school students learn skills to use throughout their lives and careers. Students are challenged to learn about themselves and develop critical necessary problem-solving and and decision-making skills to achieve their personal goals. The overall goal of the class is to prepare students become caring and responsible members in their families and informed citizens of their community and beyond.

Personal Finance

Class Overview


This course teaches the fundamentals of personal finance.  Students learn how to create a financial plan, manage personal finances and reach personal financial goals.  Topics include:  establishment of financial objectives (home ownership, education, and retirement), budgeting and savings, personal income tax, investments (stocks, bonds, and mutual funds), insurance, retirement and estate planning.  The effective management of credit is also covered.

Principles of Marketing

Class Overview


This course emphasizes the basic practices, concepts, and activities involved in developing a successful marketing program. Areas of study include: buyer behavior, market identification, product development, distribution, promotion, pricing and the uncontrollable factors (economic, social, political, legal and technologic) that are involved in today’s changing marketing environment. Students will be evaluated on the basis of exam, case studies and other assignments.
