P P A A R R
(did you sound like a pirate in your head?)
Presence
Attendance is absolutely essential to student success. If you are absent it is YOUR responsibility to:
request any materials that may have been handed out in class while you were out.
request assistance in going over any content missed while you were out.
makeup any assessments missed while you were out.
makeup any in-class activities missed while you were out.
Preparation
You are expected to be prepared for class each day. Preparation means:
Having materials handed out in class ready to be utilized.
Having a school issued Chromebook™, or an equivalent device, that is charged and ready to be utilized.
Having something to write with, including pens and/or pencils and highlighters.
Having studied for assessments or completed assignments.
Having an open-mind and being ready to participate by answering questions, engaging in discussion, and sharing your perspectives on history.
Academic Integrity
Cheating and Plagiarism will NOT be tolerated. Should a suspected academic integrity violation occur, an investigation will be done in accordance with Sauquoit Valley policy, by appropriate parties. If the alleged violation of academic integrity is found to be credible, the work in question will receive a 0, with not opportunity to complete again.
If a credible violation of academic integrity took place in Advanced Placement United States History or 50s, 60s, & 70s, MVCC will be informed of the occurrence so that the college may take subsequent action in accordance with their own academic integrity policies.
Due to the rising use of AI to circumvent academic integrity policies, every assignment in my classes may be subject to a verbal follow-up review.
Advocacy
No one can care more about your success than you. If you want to do well in class, you need to speak up. If you have work that needs to be made up, you need to speak up. If you don't understand something we are studying, you need to speak up. If you are disappointed in your grades and want to turn things around, you need to speak up.
If you prefer to send a message in StudentSquare, or leave a private comment on Google Classroom, in an email, or when no one else is around, I will be glad that you spoke up, regardless of the method.
Respect
Our class needs to be built on a foundation of mutual respect. To achieve that, we will all be expected to show respect to the members of the class and to any guests in our classroom.
Responsible Use of Technology
Technology is a great tool for us to utilize, but it can not become a distraction. Having a school issued Chromebook™, or an equivalent device, as a daily requirement throughout the building means that cell phones and their accompanying earbuds will not be regularly welcome in my classroom.
Use of AI to complete any work in my classes must receive prior approval.
