Expectations

Beginning and Junior Bands

As a performing ensemble, students are expected to put forth effort in and out of rehearsal so that they may grow as musicians and as members of a larger team.  Success of the ensemble comes from the unified effort of its members.  Organization and preparation are key factors.

Required Materials:  These are items that members need to bring to every Band class, including Band Lessons and performances.

• Instrument

• Music (should be contained within a designated Band folder)

• For Junior Band only:  Warm-up book Foundations for Superior Performance: Warm-Ups and Technique for Band for the student's respective instrument.

• For Beginning Band only: Method Book Essential Elements for Band for the student's respective instrument.

• Pencil

• Instrument-Specific Materials:  

-Clarinet/Sax- 3 functioning reeds at all times

-Brass instruments- valve/slide oil

-Bass Guitar- cable, tuner

-Percussion- Pair of drum sticks

Rehearsals, Lessons, Concerts/Performances- Expectations are stipulated in the grading policies.

SVC Jazz Band

Jazz Band has the same expectations as its curricular ther however being that rehearsals are after school hours additional commitments and organization is necessary.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals are Thursdays, 7-9 PM in the Middle School Band Room.  There may be occasions when rehearsal times/dates are changed or canceled.  Students are expected to be punctual and plan accordingly.  If a student is either going to be late or miss a rehearsal for whatever reason, then that needs to be communicated ahead of time.  Please remember that Jazz Band is a commitment.

Concerts/Performances:  The Jazz Band not only performs in the School Concerts but may also perform at various festivals and community performances.  Some of these performances are during school hours.  It is expected that students are responsible for all missed school work.  Students are also expected to wear their Jazz uniforms (Jazz shirts, black bottoms) for all performances.  Order forms for the shirts will be given to students in rehearsal as well as posted on their Classroom Page.

Music 8

The expectations of Music Class are similar to those of most classes during the school day.  Students are expected to be punctual and prepared.  Each class will start with a "bell-work".  This is an immediate engaging activity that pertains to the day's lesson.  Students will have exams and may have homework, on occasion.  Most classes will require the students to be engaged through discussion and note-taking.  Coming to class prepared and participating during class will be key for a successful semester.

• Chromebooks (students will be told ahead of time)
