Math 5
Fifth grade is such an exciting and busy transitional year! The main focus of fifth grade math is developing an understanding of and fluency with positive numbers (including fractions and decimals). Here is an idea of the questions that we will be focusing on:
How do we use basic operations to write and solve multistep problems?
How is our number system organized?
How do we express amounts that are not whole numbers?
How do we multiply and divide large whole numbers?
How can we measure and communicate the size of 3-dimensional objects?
How do we add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractional amounts?
How do we add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimal amounts?
How can we organize and communicate data using amounts that are not always whole numbers using a line plot?
How do we convert amounts within the metric system of measurement?
How do we convert amounts within the customary system of measurement?
How can we organize and classify 2-dimensional geometric shapes?
How can we recognize relationships between ordered pairs using a coordinate grid?
Math Support
In math support, students will have additional time to practice the math skills and concepts that are being taught in math class. During this period students will also focus on fluency and will take exit tickets to help determine mastery of skills.
