The German-Speaking Improvement Program is a three part program, first of which is a series of weekly workshops that will be offered by myself to students who are learning the German language at SUU. One key factor in learning a foreign language is oral practice and active conversation with others who also speak the language. To fulfill this need, these workshops created an environment where students could openly speak with other students who were also learning the language outside of class. These workshops were directed by myself in order to facilitate correct use of the language. The content that was discussed within the workshops was the material that was being taught within their German classes by the German professor at the time.
The second part of the program was interacting and helping students within their classes. I was in each German class once a week to assist them during lecture and activities to help them with questions about the material they were learning. This was a great help to the German Professor and to the individual students. This also created a better relationship between myself and the students, which then helped to create the open and comfortable environment necessary for the workshops.
The final part of my project was one-on-one tutoring. Many students weren't able to attend the weekly workshops, so I met with these students one-on-one at a different time when they were available in order to help them get the help they were missing at the workshops. The students that utilized all three parts of my project were the ones who benefited the most and excelled the most in their classes.
