Meet Mr. Billeci:
Dante Billeci has been the 5th-12th grade Band Teacher at Suttons Bay Public Schools since the fall of 2023. He has a serious passion for building the band program to its full potential, working closely with students, colleagues, and the community. In his first year, Billeci, alongside dedicated students and supportive colleagues, successfully revived the Suttons Bay Pep Band, organized trips to MSBOA festivals, secured music scholarships, coordinated performances from guest artists, established a mentorship program with local professional musicians, conducted the musical's pit orchestra, and launched a summer band camp..
After growing up in California, Billeci attended Michigan State University. Majoring in Music Education and Jazz Studies, he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 2022. At MSU, he gained a variety of performance experiences, including with the touring MSU Jazz Orchestras and Octets. With his interest in music history and music theory, Billeci served as an ethnomusicology research assistant and a music theory tutor for college-level theory courses. He earned the outstanding senior award upon graduation.
Outside of Suttons Bay, Billeci has taught privately and worked collaboratively as an instructor at a variety of music camps and workshops. He also performs professionally as a saxophonist, clarinetist, and flutist in several groups across Michigan. Locally, he performs with The Backroom Gang, a New Orleans style jazz group founded in the 1970s in Traverse City.
When he's not teaching or performing, Billeci loves to explore the outdoors through hiking and mountain biking.Â
