In total we had three formal engagement opportunities for young people to take part in:
an online survey about how prepared for adulthood young people feel
a ‘voting wall’ activity about what young people would like from a new PfA hub in Sutton
an open comments wall - listening to what matters to young people.
Online survey - PfA
We asked young people about the difference the event has made to their preparation for adulthood journey, approximately 75% said the event had helped them to feel more prepared for adulthood.
Findings will inform the design of the next PfA event in 2025!
Voting Wall - New PfA Hub in Sutton
The Children and Young People’s Disability Service used a ‘PFA Wall’ to identify what young people wanted from a new PfA hub in Sutton and what was important to them to be able to access there. We had approximately 100 young people engaging with the wall, selecting from a large range of visuals representing how they would like to feel at the PfA hub, what it would look like, and what they could do, ranging from work, independence activities and social activities. 161 visuals were chosen. Some young people also chose to write on blank cards their own ideas about what should be on offer, such as football and make up.
Findings will be shared with the Developing a PfA Hub task and finish group.
Comments wall - what matters to young people in Sutton?
Having a community based on family, school and/or close friends was important to young people.
Transport is important and those that use transport appreciate it and regard it as important.
Having safe places, feeling safe and good public transport were themes expressed by young people.
Feedback will be shared with young people and professionals working on our Youth Engagement Framework and SEND and AP Strategy 2024-2027 action plan.
