AI is already in our schools — whether we invited it or not. Students are using it. The headlines are unsettling. And many educators are left wondering: is this something I should be afraid of, or something I should be using?
This session makes the case for a third option: using AI intentionally. Through real-world stories from two classroom educators, a grounded look at the laws and policies protecting student rights, practical data security guidance, and a live demonstration, attendees will leave with a clear framework for bringing AI into their professional practice in a way that is responsible, practical, and genuinely transformative.
The central argument: AI does not replace your professional judgment — it finally bridges the gap between imagination and reality.

Participants will explore classroom-ready examples showing how Freeform helps students manage complex projects, make their thinking visible, and collaborate in real time on iPad or Mac. The approach works across content areas—including social studies, ELA, science, and electives—and supports grades 5–12. Educators will leave with practical strategies for structuring student projects, increasing student ownership, and using Freeform as a flexible hub for inquiry- and project-based learning. No prior Freeform experience is required.

Citizen science apps allow everyday people to collect and share real-world data—such as wildlife sightings, weather observations, plant identifications, or environmental conditions—using their smartphones. These observations feed into large scientific databases, helping researchers monitor ecosystems, track species, understand environmental trends, and conduct large-scale studies that would otherwise be impossible with limited professional staff. They also help users build scientific skills and engage more deeply with local environments.

Saddle Up! is an intervention program utilized at West Perry HS aimed at improving the transition of incoming 9th graders. Studies show if students have a successful 9th grade year, they are projected to have higher success rates in later years. Due to developmental and maturity gaps, 9th graders are typically written off and expected to act like a 17 or 18 year old even though they are 14 and 15. At WPHS, our discipline data has drastically decreased amongst 9th graders and our overall academic performance have gone up. However, the real magic behind saddle up is the culture shift.
