- Current passport, plus photocopy
- Additional ID
- Daypack
- Large, reusable water bottle
- Sunglasses
- Prescription glasses and/or contacts and solution
- Cash and ATM cards (note that many places in Peru are cash only, but ATMs are available)
- Toiletries: shampoo, soap, toothbrush and paste, feminine hygiene products
- Diarrhea medication (Imodium or Pepto) for traveler’s diarrhea (very common)
- Prescription or allergy medication, if needed
- Band aids
- Sunscreen
- Insect repellent with DEET & anti-itch spray or cream / allergy medication
- Electronics (adapter not needed in Peru unless bringing high voltage appliances)
- Bags for keeping items dry
- Travel towel
- Miscellaneous: journal & pen, book or e-Reader, games, playing cards
Clothing
Clothing
The weather can change drastically within a day, and even with hours. Be prepared with layers and rain gear! Temperatures can fluctuate between 45-80 degrees, with moments of intense sun or rain.
Where we will be working is still culturally conservative. Tank tops and shorts are uncommon outside of the major cities.
- Clothes for working on farm/in communities (be prepared to get dirty/wet)
- Casual, comfortable clothes for leisure activities
- Warm layer: jacket or sweatshirt
- Heavier jacket for nights/mornings/temperature drops
- Rain poncho or jacket and rain pants
- Hat with brim
- Warm hat (Can also purchase once Peru!)
- Sleepwear (also recommend thermal underwear to use for chilly nights)
- Swimsuit (for hot springs)
- Sandals or flip-flops
- Hiking boots
- Hiking socks (wool is good)
- Comfortable shoes for walking/leisure activities
- Snacks for the worksite and in between meals (i.e. trail mix, protein bars, dried fruit)
