Analyzing tasks and making them most efficient for clients is a skill that is taught in occupational therapy (OT), so to some degree that was ingrained in me during my college education. However, even before that, to my parents' dismay, I would look for more efficient ways to do just about everything: clean my room, do my homework, get from point A to point B (they had to remind themselves on numerous occasions that I would make a great adult someday). I guess you could say it’s part of my nature, and with that comes my natural tendency to be a creative problem solver. There are solutions to every problem and every inefficient process. When a problem or a challenge presents itself to me, my answer is never “there’s no way”, it’s “let’s think about how we can do this”.
I’m a firm believer in the creative problem solving process and I have an open mind to all possibilities. With that comes a commitment to growth. After all you can't be willing to discover innovative solutions to problems if you aren't willing to fail, learn and try again. From as early as I can remember I've challenged myself to be better at....life in general. I have had numerous boulders in my path but because of my tenacity I've figured out ways to not only overcome them, but to be a better person because of them. So whether it's trying to make my laundry system more efficient at home (I still have not mastered that :-) or modifying the way I teach on the fly so my students can be more successful or completing a training on Roberts Rules so I can be better equipped to run a meeting, I'm always looking for ways to be more efficient and effective in all that I do.
Annually I create/update my professional development plans based upon personal reflection and periodic assessment of my skills. The documents below highlight some of the areas I have focused on over my tenure including a thorough summary of my experiences in my CV, my current leadership development plan, the results of the Strengths Finder assessment (2018) and the FourSight assessment (2021) as well as a summary report of a very extensive 360 degree evaluation that was completed in 2022 by myself and 35 others (2 bosses, 6 direct reports, 13 peers and 14 students).

LEAD NOW! 360 Assessment. Over the years I have had numerous student evaluations that reflected on my teaching skills and have periodically had peer evaluations completed for HRPST, which all have been very helpful in identifying areas of strength and growth. However I wanted to get a broader understanding of my leadership skills in order to develop a comprehensive leadership development plan for myself. This image summarizes 98 pages of results from this leadership assessment and has helped shape my current professional development plan. A more thorough reflection can be found in the REFLECTION tab of this portfolio.
The most impactful insight gleaned is that I am overly self critical. I rated myself lower than those that provided feedback in most areas on the assessment. From a leadership perspective, my skills are generally solid, but could certainly benefit from intentional development. Areas I know I need to strengthen include organization, prioritizing, delegating tasks, setting boundaries, letting people speak before responding, seeking out other perspectives, and taking time for myself. Strengths I need to continue to foster include communication, strategic thinking, problem solving and intentional personal development.
