What is EdCamp?

If you haven’t heard of EdCamps, they are what many educators say are the most meaningful professional development they have ever received.  Why is that?

Attending an EdCamp is unique. Participants are empowered to propose their own session ideas and to learn from each other about topics that are meaningful and relevant to each individual educator.  They are sometimes focused on educational technology, sometimes on pedagogy, on educational leadership, on literacy, on struggling learners, or on any topic that is timely and meaningful to attendees.  Each EdCamp is different because the attendees are different.  Sessions are not proposed until that morning.  Many of the sessions will involve educators sitting around, sharing their best ideas, and collaborating with others both in and outside of their own school districts. In addition, EdCamps tend to draw the best and brightest educators, because they are done outside of school hours, often on a Saturday. Thus, each teacher is essentially donating their time because they know that what they will learn will reap huge dividends in the classroom.

The event is entirely organized by volunteers whose sole purpose is to create a wonderful experience for every participant. There is no cost for participants to attend.
