NHS at SHS

Membership to the National Honor Society is one of the highest honors that Sunnyside High School can offer a student. Traditionally at SHS this honor has been bestowed upon juniors and seniors of high standing academics while also showing strength in CHARACTER, SCHOLARSHIP, LEADERSHIP, and SERVICE.

Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and maintain 4 graded classes each trimester.

Other requirements include:

- Current ASB

- Complete required forms

- Regular attendance at meetings

- Complete school and community service hours (At least 5 of each)

- Participate in activities and fundraisers of the club (Homecoming Parade, October Candy Sale, Club Holiday Celebration, Poinsettia Sale)

- Maintain high standards of character, scholarship, leadership and service

Selection Process

Students interested in becoming part of the Sunnyside High School chapter of National Honor Society must complete and turn in the Student Interest Form during the dates given by your Advisors the first week of September in the new school year.

Our Faculty Council is made up of a group of teachers that represent different departments in our school. They have a high regard and standards for excellence as they give their volunteered time because they believe in the value of National Honor Society.

This group of teachers is charged with reviewing candidate information and final recommendation for candidate induction. The faculty council not only looks at candidate GPA, but also assess the four valued areas of NHS; Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service.

Students who applications have been approved will be invited to the Induction Ceremony to be "tapped" into the Sunnyside High Chapter of the National Honor Society!
