About Ms. Barraza

Hi! This is my sixth year teaching at SHS.

I have been living in Washington since the summer of 2016 and I'm loving every day of it. I moved here from El Paso, Texas where I was born and raised. I graduated from The University of Texas at El Paso with Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and minor in secondary education. I am a first generation Mexican-American and I am the youngest of three siblings. I chose this career path because I grew up in an underserved community and realized that I have the ability to help create a meaningful for students similar to me. My parents grew up in Cd. Juarez, Mexico, where most of the community grew up in poverty. My parents made the hard decision of immigrating to the US so that my siblings and I could have the opportunity they didn't get, to receive an education and accomplish my dreams. I teach because I want every student to know that they have someone who cares about them and believes in them.

Este es mi sexto año enseñando en SHS.

Vivo en Washington desde el verano de 2016 y me encanta cada día. Nací y crecí en El Paso, Texas. Me gradué de la Universidad de Texas en El Paso con una licenciatura en matemáticas y una especialización en educación secundaria. Soy Americana Mexicana de primera generación y tengo dos hermanos mayores. Elegí esta carrera profesional porque crecí en una comunidad marginada y me di cuenta de que tengo la capacidad de ayudar a crear una experiencia significativa para estudiantes similar a mí. Mis padres crecieron en Cd. Juárez, México, donde la mayoría de la comunidad creció en la pobreza. Mis padres tomaron la difícil decisión de emigrar a los Estados Unidos para que mis hermanos y yo pudiéramos tener la oportunidad que no tuvieron, de recibir una educación y lograr mis sueños. Doy clases porque quiero que todos los estudiantes sepan que tienen a alguien que se preocupa por ellos y cree en ellos.
