Research

We will engineer mammalian cells with advanced genome-editing tools to create 'designer cells'. These cells could be used as cell-based therapeutics and tools for biological research. Additionally, we aim for developing gene-therapy platforms to treat refractory diseases.

1. Genome editing

New methods for highly efficient knockin-based genome editing.
Prime editing for the generation of various cell lines.

2. Synthetic biology

Construction of stimuli-responsive genetic circuits for precise control of gene expression.
Application of the genetic circuits to design biopharmaceuticals.

3. Cell and gene therapy

Designer stem cell-derived β cells and islet organoids for treating diabetes.
Safety switches for cell-based therapeutics.
A gene therapy platform based on engineered intracellular binders such as nanobodies and DARPins.
