Required Reading for Honors English

Summer reading for honors students prepares them for the next course through the critical reading of a classic text. As students read each book, they are expected to annotate the text. If the book was borrowed from the library or read using an electronic device, the student should keep a double-entry journal or reader’s notebook while reading. Annotating texts is an expectation of college and career ready students. Students participating in this program can request to check out a chromebook. See your school for further details.

Upon returning to school, students should be prepared to discuss the required and choice texts. Students’ comprehension of the required reading will be assessed through the composition of a text-dependent analysis essay. Students should refer to their annotations while crafting the essay. Teachers will continue to incorporate themes and topics from these novels throughout the course.
