About Us

R.E. Davis College Preparatory Academy was established in 2018 as the first PK- 8 public school in Sumter School District. This was accomplished by merging R.E. Davis Elementary School with Mayewood Middle School. R.E. Davis serves approximately 430 students and families in Sumter County.

The administration, faculty, staff, district-level personnel, and stakeholders support all students as they develop the world class skills and life and career characteristics of the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate by providing a safe, caring, academically challenging, and literacy focused learning environment. R.E. Davis College Preparatory Academy’s motto is “Armed with our S.W.O.R.D.”. Students are reminded daily to use their S.W.O.R.D (Seek Excellence, Work Hard, Observe Rules and Procedures, Respect Self and Others and Do the Right Thing).

R.E. Davis College Preparatory Academy places an emphasis on educating the whole child through character development, AVID, NMSI (STEM education program), and integrated research-based best teaching practices to meet the individual needs of our students. We are a Title I school where teachers challenge students through content-based critical thinking skills, problem solving activities, educational field trips, guest speakers, and hands-on math and science activities.

Community leaders, members of the faith-based community, parents, and other stakeholders actively participate in the school renewal plan, accreditation process, and are members of the School Improvement Council, which ensures a perpetual focus on developing all students for career and college readiness.
