About the Oster Scholar:

I am a recent graduate from Summit Prep and will attend San Jose State in the Fall. I'm majoring in Biological Sciences with a Pre-med track. I plan to become a General Surgeon. Moments in my life that impacted my interest in becoming a doctor were the realization that I am not the most social person due to being very shy and timid. Presentations and Socratics were not my strongest skill during High school. But I challenged that idea in my last year of High school. I came out of my comfort zone from doing amazing opportunities of being a Teacher’s Assistant for Spanish 1, a Teacher Assistant for Life after High school, and helping the front desk office. It allowed me to connect more with students I've never interacted with. A moment that confirmed more that I wanted to be a Doctor was the realization that many in my family have diseases, especially those here in this country. They don't understand English, which made me glad for the Hispanic roots I carry and that I know Spanish, and not only Spanish but English as well, which gives me the advantage of speaking with Spanish speakers. I will also be able to communicate well with patients on the Autism Spectrum since I have learned a lot from having a twin brother who has autism. I have unique skills: great communication with others, and I can work with partners/groups pretty well. I am someone who adapts very quickly. My best skill is Honesty and Curiosity. I hope to make this world better with these skills and the career I am pursuing.
