Embodying Summit’s Core Values:
“Melody has demonstrated the core characteristic of compassion. Melody frequently goes out of their way to ensure their friends are doing well and are usually there for emotional support. Specifically, Melody had a friend who could not afford a prom dress this year. Melody took this opportunity to support her friend and show her compassion by donating their old dress to them. Additionally, Melody is a very responsible student and mentee. Despite the challenges it brought throughout virtual school, such as a lack of stable wifi, Melody was always diligent with their coursework and extracurriculars. […] Lastly, Melody shows the core characteristic of courage in many ways. One specific example that comes to mind for Melody is when one of their family members passed away this Fall. It was a very challenging time for Melody. They struggled significantly - emotionally and mentally. However, through it all, they were able to continue keeping up with their classes and the college application process.”

About the Oster Scholar:
One moment of my life that has impacted my interests is being given the opportunity to volunteer as a cabin leader at a children's science camp in my sophomore year. I have talked about this topic with several folks because this was a big accomplishment for me to be away from home for the greater good of assisting kids in having a great camp experience. It made me feel good and proud of myself; this was a turning point in my life where it made me realize that I enjoy helping people. I haven't known what I wanted to be or do with my life for a very, very long time, but with this new information, I figured out about myself with the combination of knowing that I LOVE creating art from a very young age; I concluded that I wanted to be an Art Therapist in the future. I am a graduating senior from Summit Tahoma, and in the fall, I will be attending San Francisco State University and majoring in Psychology to be able to pursue that passion!
