Embodying Summit’s Core Values: “Jeremiah has won the Courage award for his grade level multiple times throughout his high school career, and has helped organize and lead said awards ceremonies. He is empowered by his sense of responsibility to be a strong role model for his twin brother. In addition to his courageous leadership, he also demonstrates discipline and dedication through his excellence in athletics. His passion for basketball has helped him develop incredible teamwork skills, flexibility in situations, humility, and the other traits that follow being the team captain of a basketball team. In addition to those traits, Jeremiah is a student who demonstrates superb creativity. He channels the pain and experience of being a young black man beautifully into poetry. His creative writing skills transfer to his ability to write academically in science and history classes. His creativity, perseverance, and leadership combined inspire other students in our cohort to excel.” - Hilary Vo (Tam Teacher - Nominator)
Oster Scholars’ Concrete Next Step: Jeremiah plans to attend an institution of higher education to prepare for his future career as a lawyer. He wants to advocate for young black men who have also lost their father at a young age, because the legal system was difficult for him to navigate during one of the most difficult times in his life.
