Embodying Summit’s Core Values: “In the beginning of high school, I was nervous about meeting new people and the amount of class work. Once I started to get comfortable in school and started gaining confidence in myself, I wanted to join clubs. During the pandemic, my mentor asked me if I would like to join the student government at Everest. I was hesitant about joining because I felt I was not smart enough and the workload would be too much. After much convincing, I decided to sign up. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and was very anxious about attending the first meeting. In this moment, I displayed courage. I did not know who was going to be there but upon attending the meeting, I felt very welcomed [...]. I soon started to get passionate about improving the Everest school community and I knew I wanted to continue working in student government. I embodied responsibility and compassion by taking on additional roles in the school and planning things for our community. Now it being my senior year, I am Co-president and I am still trying to improve the spirit at school, plan school dances, and create a bridge between students and the faculty. One of my main goals as Co-President is to listen to my community with compassion and to plan events and create systems that will bring us closer together.” Emily Villegas (Everest Student - Self Nominated)

Oster Scholars’ Concrete Next Step: Emily’s goal is to attend a four-year university and be the first in their family to go to college. She has been accepted to multiple universities. She has worked very hard to achieve this goal by maintaining A’s in her classes. Over her time at Everest, she has developed an interest in Business and Business Administration through the expeditions courses and internships she has completed. For example, She took a course at American University on International Business and grew passionate about learning that side of business.
