Everyday, Angel demonstrates deep compassion and respect in all of his interactions with others. Angel’s compassion is seen through the role he plays in supporting his brothers emotionally, physically, and academically. [...]. Angel’s courage has also been noted in many instances, one being throughout his school experiences. Angel has demonstrated strong courage by pushing himself to succeed academically through multiple moves - including from Spain, to Mexico, to the U.S. Specifically, after moving to the U.S., he worked extremely hard as an English language learner to excel in English by not only testing as proficient on the ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessments for California), but now supporting as a teaching assistant for AP English Language.” - Devonna Alatorre (Tahoma Teacher - Nominator)
Oster Scholars’ Concrete Next Step: Angel plans to attend San Jose State University and major in Math, specifically an Integrated Teacher Bachelor program. Angel’s goal is to attend college to become a high school math teacher. Angel’s strong passion for serving others along with his experience as a student himself have led him to pursue teaching. As a teacher, Angel hopes to serve his community by providing underrepresented students with the support and access they need. Angel plans to stay local since he supports his family significantly - specifically with his two brothers experiencing disability who he helps care for daily.
