About Us
Summit School started a honey bee program in 2013. The school has two places where hives are kept, known as apiaries. This program is led by Chris Culp, Summit's Director of Technology and Innovation & Entrepreneurship teacher.
This year, seven 8th-grade students in the I & E class, with the help of Mr. Culp and Nate Shaw, have taken over Summit's honey processing responsibilities.
We are very excited to share our delicious, fresh, natural honey with the community.
Hive 13 incorporates a unique and hands-on process when producing its honey. First, they extract the honey from the hive, then bring it back to the summit kitchen, where they decap each frame of honey. Then, they put the frames in a honey centrifuge, which spins the fresh honey out of each frame. Lastly, they filter, jar, and label them to get ready to sell to you!
