During this presentation, we will looked at nature and experiences of adolescent anxiety, which will include the social, emotional, and academic components of anxiety for both parents and students. During these difficult and challenging times, many adolescents have been struggling with anxiety in relation to uncertainty, change, pressure from self or others, relationships, family life, lack of motivation, procrastination, perfectionism, boredom, isolation, and at times, poor academic performance. The goal of this presentation is to provide information to parents about how they can foster independent adolescents, help their adolescents effectively manage anxiety, and lastly, discuss how parents can help encourage and support adolescent resiliency in this age of anxiety.

It is well worth the hour - great information, practical insights, and usable suggestions for interventions and supports.

This year looks and feels very different. The last several months have been a huge challenge, with many of our community members facing losses. Not just the loss of a loved one, but the loss of our routines, freedom, independence, activities, friendships, end of year celebrations: 8th-grade pool party, Washington DC trip, SHS prom, graduation, athletics - the list goes on.

Many of us are looking for ways to manage our loss and grief, as well as supporting our students, our kids. I invite you to join Summit on Wednesday, September, 23 at 7:00 pm for our first Parent Wellness Event, Grief and Loss During the COVID-19 Pandemic, a live webinar presented by Lisa Athan of Grief Speaks.

Our teens are caught in the crossfire of a war between a massive vaping industry and the public health entities trying to reign them in. We will highlight current teen vaping statistics and the latest policy changes on flavor bans, disposable vapes, and more. Parents, Youth organizers, and Drug-Free Coalition leaders join Dr. Aaron Weiner, a board-certified licensed clinical psychologist and Founder of Bridge Forward Group, who will provide a broad-spectrum analysis of the current state of vaping and implications…

Living in a world that’s increasingly unpredictable, today’s kids, especially alternative learners, are more anxious than ever before. Dr. Sharon Saline, veteran psychologist will discuss how anxiety works and what professionals and parents can do to help kids reduce their worries. Dr. Saline will also discuss how to help kids change their relationship to worry and avoid the pitfalls of negative thinking. Learn techniques for separating the person from the anxiety, talking to the worry itself, and creating effective responses to ‘what ifs’. Dr. Saline offers tools for teaching all types of learners how to realistically evaluate situations, tolerate uncertainty, and calm down.
