Course Description

This course completes the chronology of the U.S. History I Honors program. Highly motivated students pursue a rigorous and accelerated college-level survey of historical events, concepts, interpretations and themes in American history from the Progressive Movement to the present. We will examine why and how events occurred, the development of short and long-term trends, the impact of people and events on other people and events, as well as the connections between ideas and actions. Students will analyze primary sources, evaluate evidence and interpretations, and defend their assumptions through a variety of writing assignments. Students will be prepared for the high level of historical analysis necessary to take the AP test in May.

Grading categories and weights: Tests - 40%; Quizzes - 10%; Homework/Classwork - 25%; Essays and Projects: 25% (These weights and categories will change slightly in the marking period when the research paper is due.)
