 Summit Public Schools

The Instrumental Music staff is pleased to welcome you to the Band or Orchestra! On this site, you will find information related to many frequently asked questions. If you have any questions not addressed here, please contact your school’s instrumental music teacher.

Q: When can I sign up?

A: Registration is now open through June 14, 2024! However, please do not secure an instrument yet! Your child's music director will reach out in the Spring with more information about obtaining an instrument.

Q: When will instrumental music lessons begin?

A: For the 2024-2025 school year we plan to start instrumental lessons the week of September 16th. Please try to secure an instrument before the first lesson. The specific day your child will have their lesson is different for each teacher and ensemble. You will receive a schedule at the start of the 2024-2025 school year.

Q: How do instrumental music lessons work?

A: Instrumental lessons take place during the school day, once per week for 30 minutes as a pull-out program. Lessons operate on a rotating schedule so that students are only pulled from the same time slot/class once every 6-8 weeks. Please be assured that instrumental music teachers work closely with classroom teachers and other school staff to make any needed adjustments to the schedule and make-up lessons are provided on a weekly basis.

Q: When do Band and Orchestra full group rehearsals take place?

A: Lessons are small group instruction, organized by instrument type. However, we have full band or orchestra rehearsals, which take place during recess once a week. These rehearsals usually begin for 4th graders in the month of November. Check with your director for the schedule!
