Battle of the Books is a national reading incentive program. At Franklin, 4th and 5th graders are invited to read a range of books from different genres to compete with teams across their grade level.
The way we run the program in Summit is a team of no more than five (5) readers from a grade level (can be any class) will read fifteen different titles, reading for detail and recall. Building-level "battles" will result in one school team who will compete at the district level.
Teams will form in October (although some eager readers may start sooner), and books will be distributed once teams are decided and parents/guardians have given permission to participate. Building battles take place during lunch and the representative team will take a "field trip" to the host school sometime in the spring. At this time, we rely on parent transportation, so if you are Board approved, please let me know. We will only need transportation for the representative team, which again will be decided in the spring.
Forms for participation can be found in the student Library Google Classroom.
