Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year at Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School. I hope each of you had a terrific summer. I am looking forward to working with you and your scholar this year. I know that this year will be a great one, filled with a wide variety of learning experiences for your child. As a seventh grade Social Studies teacher I stress academic as well as non-academic areas to prepare your child for high school. These are very important years for the students and I will do my best to encourage good study habits. I feel these are necessary skills for success in school.
In order to foster excellent study skills I assign homework on a regular basis. There will also be several writing projects assigned throughout the year. Establishing a suitable time and a quiet well-lit place for home study will enable your scholar to “get into a routine” of studying each day.
I have set high standards for our classroom. Being prepared for class on a daily basis is a requirement for all students. For Social Studies class, please ensure that your scholar has the following materials daily: pens (dark blue or black ink), two 2-pocket folders, a notebook, sticky notes, pencils (with erasers), a wired earbud and a highlighter.
Because you are an integral part of your scholar’s education, I feel home-school communication is of vital importance. I welcome your comments. Please feel free to contact me at dhymancampbell@summit.k12.nj.us.
Thank you in advance for your support. By working together we can make this a wonderful year for all of us. You are a very important part of our LCJ team. I look forward to meeting you in the coming days at Back-to-School Night.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Campbell
