As part of the Vex Robotics game, teams need to take advantage of the fifteen second autonomous (Autonomous describes things that function separately or independently) portion of the game. During this time the robot is programmed by a student to score as many points as possible autonomously. The winning of the autonomous bonus points gives the team an advantage that at times can be the winning or losing factor of the game.
SEMS Iron Patriots uses VEX V5 Coding to program their robots. Vex offers a drag and drop programming software, however, as a competitive team students will learn to program their robots using text programming rather than drag and drop. In addition teams will write out their programming plan using pseudocode (Pseudocode is sometimes used as a detailed step in the process of developing a program) prior to writing their program. Students will document this process to be added to their E&D Journal.
