As this process starts at the end of each April when the new game is released, students participate in summer camps, and work throughout the school year to compete a high level, participation in the program can be time consuming, but with hard work comes the reward of success. Students that are dedicated to the process typically have overall better performance.
A calendar will be handed out each month with practice dates and times.
All tournaments will be scheduled ahead of time and date provided ahead of time.
Not only do our students compete multiple times during the school year, but our program host events that allow teams from throughout the state of Tennessee the chance to attend the Tennessee Vex Robotics tournament for middle and high school teams.
Hosting tournaments requires a great number of volunteers.
For home tournaments we begin the set up process on Friday evening
The tear down process is completed immediately after the tournament and the robotics classroom must returned to its normal working condition.
Parent participation is required and greatly appreciated as hosting tournaments is the greatest source of funding the program receives.
Teams that win at the state level are given the chance to compete at the world level each April.
All team members must have permission to release their pictures online either through the school, county, VEX, and team websites in order to participate. Students can not compete in this program per the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation.
All tournaments are held on Saturday.
Students must attend tournaments as a portion of their grade.
Students not able to attend tournaments must speak with Mrs. Trent two weeks prior to the event.
Missing tournaments hosted at the school will result in a zero for that event.
Most tournaments are local, however, some travel to events is required.
Most travel is within an hour and a half drive (excluding state and/or world).
Unfortunately, we have limited funding and the transportation and/or cost of travel is at the responsibility of the parent. *** As our program grows, I hope to offer bus transportation to and from the event at limited cost to the student and family.
The team will practice after school each week day until 5:00 PM.
As tournaments approach we will may have a Saturday practice typically 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
Adults that can assist with these practice dates are encouraged to attend.
(i.e. assist cutting metal, going over design challenges with students, or be an additional adult in the room)
Calendars will be printed and handed out a month at a time.
Most tournaments are predetermined by early September so that you can place them on your calendar.
There is a cost of $50.00 per student to participate on the competitive robotics team. This fee will be used to purchase a shirt for team members (team members that already have a shirt will only pay a fee $35.00), help cover the cost to register the team competitively, and offset the expense of purchasing new parts. The cost of replacing parts damaged due to neglect or abuse will be the responsibility of the parent.
If parents wish to purchase a shirt the cost is $20.00 per family member.
