Sudoku Capsule Wardrobe

Similar to the game Sudoku, you lay out 9 clothing items in a grid to create multiple styling options. Personally, I love this approach as it can be a great introduction to capsule wardrobes and finding new ways to style the clothes you have. 

Here is how it works:

You will need 9 total pieces broken up by 3 tops, 3 bottoms, and 3 layers (think sweaters, jackets, blazers). 

Once you have the pieces, it is time to arrange them in a “Sudoku” fashion as shown below

When you put the items in this order you now can quickly create multiple unique outfits. Don’t see them yet… don’t worry we are breaking them down.

As you continue to switch the individual tops, layers, and bottoms around in the Sudoku method, you will see even more outfit options. 

Some considerations:

• The Sudoku method, like most capsule wardrobes, does best when all pieces can coordinate with each other. Neutral patterns and colors tend to do best.

• This method is based on each outfit or look consisting of a top, bottom, and layer. If you do not prefer layers, you can still get some great looks using this method. 

I love this idea for creating a travel capsule, work capsule, or just having a few go to outfits handy when you are running short on time. 

The more that people extend the life of the garments they have, it reduces overconsumption and disposal of garments therefore reducing the negative impacts of the fashion industry. Capsule Wardrobes, like this Sudoku method, contribute to a more sustainable fashion system. 

So grab your beverage of choice and start building out your Sudoku capsule wardrobe. With the time you save picking out your outfits in the morning, you might just have enough time to play Sudoku.
