The 1-50 Facts Final will take place on Friday 12/17. Make sure to review the facts that you have struggled with to prepare for the final.
For the second quarter we will be studying the civilizations of Ancient Egypt, Kush, and Canaan. We will examine how the geography of the area impacted settlement and the interactions the different civilizations had with one another. We will look at various artifacts to learn about their cultural, political, and religious achievements.
The Unit Test for Egypt and Kush is Tuesday 11/9.
The Unit Test for the Hebrews is Tuesday 12/14.
As we study the rise of civilization in Mesopotamia, we will learn how small farming villages developed into city-states, and eventually the world's first empires were formed. We will use the GRAPES to examine daily life in Mesopotamia/Sumer.
We will wrap up our study of Mesopotamia/Sumer the week of 10/4-10/8.
Students will take the unit test on Tuesday 10/5 (Study Guide handed out Tuesday 9/28)

The study guide was handed out Fri. 9/3. Students will use Lessons 1-3 in TCI to complete the study guide. There are no retakes or corrections, as students can use their study guide on the test.
Students will learn 50 facts each semester. 10 new facts per week for 5 weeks, with quizzes each Tuesday (Wednesday when there is no school Monday). After all 50 have been completed, students will take a weekly quiz on 10 random facts out of the 50. At the end of each semester a Final on all 50 will be given. Students have several resources to study, including the cards they make, Google Slideshow , practice quizzes post on Google Classroom SS each week. Studying 10 minutes daily will be more beneficial than cramming for a couple hours the night before. STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!!!
As we begin our study of Prehistory, we will examine artifacts and fossil remains to understand how archaeologists form hypotheses about what life was like before civilization and written records. Asking the following questions will help students draw conclusions about Prehistoric life.
Who lived in this place?
When did they live here?
What were they like?
What happened in the past?
Where did people live?
How did they use their environment to survive?

Beginning week two, we will dive into the study of Ancient Civilizations. Starting with Prehistory, we will then move onto the civilizations of Mesopotamia/Sumer, Egypt/Kush, Hebrews, India, China, Greece, and Rome. As we study each civilization we will focus on the GRAPES. We will use TeachTCI for our online text, which will be accessed through Clever when students sign into their school Google account.
