In Language Arts we have begun reading the novel Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. This is an amazingly crafted novel in which three stories weave together showing the growth of characters and the impact they have on each other's lives. Each day we will be discussing excerpts for character, setting, and theme. The novel addresses the themes of Dealing with Loss, Dealing with Fear, Empathy, and Nature as a Source of Comfort. We will read this novel over the course of four weeks with a quiz and assignment at the end of each week and a final project when we have finished the book.
This novel is a work of historical fiction based on true events of the rescue of the Jews in Denmark during World War II. The themes of Bravery, Determination, Friendship, and Pride are demonstrated throughout this story. Students will find many excerpts to show the personality of characters, the importance of setting, and the demonstration of themes.
Final Project Presentations are on Thursday 12/16.
A fun and mysterious novel that addresses the themes , Importance of Family, Significance of Friendship, and Power of Imagination. As we read this novel we will be identifying excerpts that reveal the personality of characters, the impact of the setting, and the demonstration of the three themes.
As we read our first novel we will be discussing and finding evidence for the following themes:
-Rebelling Against Expectations
-Pursuing Your Dreams
-Overcoming Challenges
Students will complete all reading in class; outside of class they can access the text and the audio book in Google Classroom LA.
We start our Language Arts curriculum by studying Figurative Language. Students have completed an "I Am" poem using at least four examples of Figurative Language Literary Devices.
