Place Value
Chapter 1: Place Value Concepts
In this chapter, your student is learning place value concepts. The lessons address how to identify the values of the digits in multi-digit numbers, read and write multi-digit numbers in different forms, and use place value to compare and round multi-digit numbers. The vocabulary words associated with this chapter are: period, ones period, thousands period, and place value chart. *PRACTICE GAME*
Chapter 2: Add and Subtract Multi-Digit Numbers
In this chapter, your student is learning various strategies for adding and subtracting numbers with up to six digits. The lessons address estimating sums and differences, using estimates to check whether an answer is reasonable, choosing a strategy to add or subtract, and using addition to check subtraction. The vocabulary word associated with this chapter is estimate. *PRACTICE GAME*
Chapter 3: Multiply by One-Digit Numbers
In this chapter, your student is learning how to multiply one-digit numbers by tens, hundreds, and thousands. The lessons address how to estimate products by rounding, and to multiply using properties, expanded form, and partial products. The vocabulary words associated with this chapter are: Distributive Property and partial products. *PRACTICE GAME*
Chapter 4: Multiply by Two-Digit Numbers
In this chapter, your student is learning to multiply two-digit numbers. Your student will learn multiplication strategies for estimating, using area models, using the Distributive Property, and using partial products. The vocabulary phrase for this chapter is compatible numbers. Compatible numbers are numbers that are easy to multiply and are close to the actual numbers being multiplied. *PRACTICE GAME*
Chapter 5: Divide Multi-Digit Numbers by One-Digit Numbers
In this chapter, your student is learning about dividing multi-digit numbers by one-digit numbers. Students will use tape diagrams, counters, and area diagrams when dividing. Students will explore division problems with and without a remainder. Students will use a division strategy involving partial quotients, where quotients are found in parts until the remainder is less than the divisor. You can help your student learn about dividing multi-digit numbers by one-digit numbers by practicing in real-life settings. Vocabulary terms associated with this chapter include remainder and partial quotients. *PRACTICE GAME*
Chapter 6: Factors, Multiples, and Patterns
In this chapter, your student is learning about factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers, and patterns. The vocabulary terms for this chapter are: factor pair, divisible, multiple, prime number, composite number, and rule. *PRACTICE GAME*
Fractions and Decimals
Chapter 7: Understand Fraction Equivalence and Comparison
In this chapter, your student is learning different strategies for writing equivalent fractions and comparing fractions. The lessons address how to use multiplication and division to find equivalent fractions, as well as how to compare fractions using benchmarks and equivalent fractions. The vocabulary words for this chapter are: benchmark, common factor, equivalent, and equivalent fractions. *PRACTICE GAME*
Chapter 8: Add and Subtract Fractions
In this chapter, your student is learning to add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers with like denominators. Area model and number lines are used to help students visualize the operations. The vocabulary words for this chapter are mixed number and unit fraction. *PRACTICE GAME*
Chapter 9: Multiply Whole Numbers and Fractions
In this chapter, your student is learning how to multiply whole numbers and fractions. The lessons build upon prior knowledge your student has about unit fractions and mixed numbers, as well as the Distributive and the Associative Properties. Area models will help your student visualize multiplication with fractions. *PRACTICE GAME*
Chapter 10: Relate Fractions and Decimals
In this chapter, your student is learning how to work with and relate decimals and fractions involving tenths or hundredths. These fractions are called decimal fractions. Your student will also be using these types of numbers to work with money. The vocabulary words for this chapter are: decimal, decimal fraction, decimal point, equivalent decimals, hundredth, hundredths place, tenth, and tenths place. *PRACTICE GAME*
Geometry, Measurement, and Data
Chapter 11: Understand Measurement Equivalence
In this chapter, your student is working with metric and customary measures of length, mass, weight, capacity, and time. He or she is learning how different units in each measurement system compare; making and using line plots; solving word problems involving elapsed time; and adding and subtracting mixed measures. The vocabulary words for this chapter are: millimeter, kilometer, mile, ounce, pound, ton, cup, pint, quart, gallon, and second. *PRACTICE GAME*
Chapter 12: Use Perimeter and Area Formulas
