Algebra 2

This course is driven by the Common Core State Standards for Algebra 2 and culminates with the new Algebra 2 (Common Core) Regents Exam. The course focuses on polynomial, rational and radical relationships, complex numbers, trigonometric functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, probability and statistical inferences. 

Graphing calculators will be integrated into the curriculum and will be available for in-class use. Students need NOT purchase their own calculator, however having access to a graphing calculator outside of the classroom can be advantageous. The recommended calculator is the TI-nspire CX graphing calculator. The state does NOT allow the use of the TI-nspire CX CAS , the TI-89 calculator or any calculator with symbolic manipulation on the Regents examination. 

Materials:  In this course we do not make use of a textbook. Therefore students will need a notebook, lots of loose leaf paper, pencils and erasers (please, no ink). Graphing calculators will be integrated into the curriculum and will be available for in-class use. Students need NOT purchase their own calculator. The recommended calculator is the TI-nspire CX graphing calculator WITHOUT symbolic manipulation. This calculator is permitted on the NYS Regents examinations and will be emphasized throughout the course.

Attendance:  Excellent attendance is necessary to succeed in this course. Please make every effort to be on time every day and ready to go. Students are responsible for the material covered during any absence, as well as the corresponding homework assignments.

Assignments:  Assignments provide students an opportunity to practice what will be tested. Homework will be assigned daily and submitted regularly via Google Classroom. Assignments are posted on the above calendar and in Google Classroom (click "join a class" and enter jpvsx2v). Although homework can be challenging students are expected to give every problem their best effort, and are strongly encouraged to come in for help when necessary.

Extra Help:       Students are welcome to stop by Room 106 for extra assistance during the following times. Other opportunities may be available upon request.


Generative AI: The use of generative AI tools is NOT permitted for any assignment in this course. Please be advised that submitting work created using generative AI tools may be considered a violation of Spackenkill High School’s Academic Integrity Policy (located on page 9 of the Student Handbook) and may result in disciplinary action.
