Honor Society
The Suffern Middle School's chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is a recognized and esteemed organization. Membership is available to students who meet the required standards in scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. Selection criteria are set by the national NJHS office and adapted to suit our local chapter. Students are chosen by a Faculty Council composed of five members appointed by the advisor every March.
Eligible for membership are seventh and eighth grade students with
an A- or above in all four Core classes and Foreign Language for the 2024-2025 school year and quarters 1 and 2 of the 2025-2026 school year (total of 6 quarters required). Those who qualify are invited to complete an application detailing their leadership, character, citizenship, and service. The Faculty Council reviews disciplinary records and seeks input from faculty members to assess the candidate's qualifications. A majority vote by the Council determines selection.
Candidates will receive notification of their status according to a set timeline. Induction for new members will take place on May 6, 2026 at 6pm at Suffern Middle School. Inductees must uphold the same level of excellence in all criteria, attend monthly meetings, and partake in service projects.
If the cumulative grade point average falls below the required A- for any grading period, members will be placed on probation and will be given the opportunity to improve their grades.
