Day 1: We interpret the world through different parts of our brain. As you go on a nature walk today, pay close attention to what you see, hear, touch, smell, and taste. Then look at the picture of the brain to determine which part processes each experience. If you can't see the whole picture here, look up "brain functions" in images.
Day 2: Underneath our feet is soil. Soil is a dark brown to black mixture of material found at the upper layer of earth and consists of a mixture of organic materials, clay, and rock. Go outside and find a creature who uses soil as their ecosystem. What do you think soil provides the creature?
Day 3: What would happen if you take away the strength of one of your senses by either blindfolding yourself, putting on earmuffs or gloves, or holding your nose? If you go outside, what do you notice about how you experience the world?
Day 4: Measure an area of 16 square inches and dig 5 inches down. Observe the area you are digging. Now observe and document the types and number of living things in the ground that you were digging in. What conclusions can you draw about what you found there?
Day 5: World Wondering-Take the time to wonder about how we experience our world through our senses and how animals experience their surroundings. How does the way we treat our world impact how we experience it?
Day 6: Go outside and practice these 6 yoga poses for a period of ten minutes. After you finish practicing, choose the two standing poses to time yourself. How long were you able to do each pose? The cerebellum of the brain controls balance. Why do you think one pose was more successful than the other? Now try it with your eyes closed. Were you more/less successful?
Day 7: We have seen that the ground is a living system. Now go out and observe trees. What animals use trees and how do they use them? Predict what would happen if they cleared the trees to build houses.
Day 8: Go on a sensory walk outside. What natural scents can you experience? How is it different from the scents you experience inside? Are there similarities or differences between the scents?
Day 9: World Warrior-Do something great for our planet. You can clean up some garbage, plant something, or give water to our plants our trees. If we all do one little thing, it helps our world so much! Send a picture to your teacher!
Day 10: Creatures will use water if it is available to them. Put out 2 cups of water in a container and cover it. Take another container and put 2 cups of water in it and leave it uncovered. Observe each container at the same time every day for 5 days. After 5 days, observe the water for changes such as capacity and signs of life. How do the two water samples compare?
Day 11: Using your sense of hearing, go outside and pay close attention to animals outside. How are they communicating with each other? What patterns are you noticing?
Day 12: Water is a living system for many organisms. Pollution can harm the living organisms by reducing their oxygen and harm their environments. Using any materials you have at home, design something that can clean litter out of water without a person having to touch the water. Recycle, Repurpose, Reuse
Day 13: Make a Nature Texture Table. When you go outside, find items on the ground with different textures such as rough, smooth, fuzzy, hard, wet, dry. Bring them inside and put them in a clear ziploc bag to make nature's texture table. Be sure to label the texture next to the item.
Day 14: Wish for the World-If you could wish for anything for this world, what would it be? Why would you wish for that?
Day 15: Go outside and collect leaves of various shapes, colors, and sizes. Do a leaf rubbing with the vein side facing up. What do you notice about the pattern of the veins? Why do you think they're formed that way? Are veins more noticeable in some leaves than others?
Day 16: Plan and draw a garden with your favorite fruits and vegetables. What recipe would you make from these foods? Draw a picture about it and describe how it tastes or make a video!
Day 17: Design a playground for any local wildlife animal to keep it healthy and fit. Build a model of the playground using materials you have at home. Name the playground.
Day 18: The cerebellum controls hand eye coordination. Do an activity outside that improves your hand eye coordination such as a balloon toss, juggling, jumping rope, throwing a ball against a wall and catching it, dribbling a ball, etc...
Day 19: If a natural disaster were to occur in the Suffern area, what animal's habitat would you rebuild first and why? What would be included in this ecosystem?
Day 20: Warning for the World-Some events are happening that are damaging our earth, animal life, insect life, and water. Make a poster or a video announcement to tell people to stop doing something that harms our earth and why they need to stop doing it.
