In Spanish 1, I will introduce students to the fundamentals of the Spanish language, focusing on essential vocabulary, basic grammar structures, pronunciation, and conversational skills. Students will learn how to greet others, introduce themselves, talk about their families, express likes and dislikes, discuss daily routines, and describe their surroundings using present-tense verbs and simple sentence structures. I will also incorporate cultural elements from various Spanish-speaking countries to give students a broader understanding of the diverse communities where the language is spoken. Emphasis will be placed on listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with interactive activities designed to build confidence and practical communication skills from the very beginning.
In Spanish 2, I will build on the foundational skills developed in Spanish 1 by introducing more complex grammar concepts, such as the preterite and imperfect past tenses, reflexive verbs, object pronouns, and comparisons. Students will expand their vocabulary to discuss topics like travel, health, celebrations, daily chores, and technology. They will engage in more detailed conversations, write longer paragraphs, and begin to interpret and analyze short texts in Spanish. Listening and speaking skills will continue to be a focus, with increased emphasis on accuracy and fluency. Cultural exploration will deepen, allowing students to compare cultural practices, products, and perspectives across different Spanish-speaking countries, fostering both linguistic competence and global awareness.
