Frequently Asked Questions

We will continue to update this page as we receive questions from families, so check back frequently for up-to-date answers.

Health and Safety Measures

Will SA conduct random testing for COVID-19 like the city does at district schools?

We will no longer require weekly testing of unvaccinated scholars, but

if your child has COVID-19 symptoms, you should have them tested immediately.

Are health forms (physical, immunization, etc) required to go back to school?

Yes, scholar medical packets will be required, which include a Certificate of Immunization, scholar physical, and Medical Administration Form (MAF).

Do I need to have my scholar vaccinated for COVID-19?

We highly recommend a vaccination for COVID-19, but we do not require it.

Where can I get a vaccination?

It’s easy to get a vaccination. Here is how to find a location near you.

What if I don't have insurance or can't afford the vaccine?

The vaccines are free and you don’t need insurance.

What if I am an undocumented immigrant?

That doesn’t matter — you are still eligible and do not need an ID.

I’m afraid I/my child will get COVID-19 from the vaccine.

That’s a common misunderstanding, but you can’t get COVID-19 from the vaccine because it doesn’t contain a live virus.

I hear that a lot of people are getting COVID-19 even though they are vaccinated. Why should I get my scholar vaccinated if it doesn’t even work?

While vaccinated individuals can get infected, they are far less likely to experience severe symptoms or require hospitalization.

Logistics, Transportation, & Special Requests

Will you provide transportation so the scholars don’t have to ride public transportation?

Other than Metrocards, SA does not provide transportation.

Can I transfer my scholar to a closer Success Academy?

Your school's main office staff can file a hardship transfer request on your behalf, and we will do our best to accommodate if there is available space at the requested school.

What about indoor dismissals in the event of snow or rain?

During inclement weather, unvaccinated family members or guardians will wait outside with school staff members; scholars will be sent out when school staff confirm that an adult on their pickup list has arrived.

Support & Scholar Services

Will the new teletherapy service for high schoolers be billed through insurance or will it be free of charge?

Uwill, our new teletherapy service for high schoolers, will be available entirely free of charge. More information will be shared soon about completing the required consent form and how your scholar can register for an account.

Specials/Electives & Field Studies

Will scholars still participate in clubs, electives, and athletics?

School and network competitive clubs and teams will hold practice five days a week.

Certain external opportunities may require full vaccination for participation, and/or testing negative for Covid.

Will scholars still have field studies?

Since the beginning of last year, scholars have been enjoying both virtual field studies, select off-campus field studies, as well as having vaccinated vendors come on campus to enhance their learning experiences. This year, scholars will again be able to travel off campus to support learning outside of the classroom and utilize the riches that NYC offers our scholars. They’ll also get to enjoy educational speaker visits at school as well as some virtual field studies with institutions outside of NYC.

Uniforms & Miscellany

Will uniform vouchers still be available?

Success will continue to provide uniform vouchers to families experiencing economic hardship, and new families will receive one free set of uniforms.

Will lunch be provided to the children?

Students will be offered free breakfast and lunch daily in school.

Will there be an opportunity to take a tour?

We believe in transparency, and have always had an “open door” policy allowing parents a 30-minute observe their scholar’s classroom. This policy goes into effect after the first six weeks of school, once scholars have settled in.

Per DOE policy, only vaccinated parents and guardians are allowed in our school buildings. Please refer to the Health & Safety page for details on how you can safely come into your school building to meet with your scholar’s teacher, observe your scholar’s class, or stop by the main office to drop off medicine or lunch.
