Families can plan a talent show or participate in a readers’ theater.
Family members can take turns making up stories and sharing them.
Spread a cookie sheet with sand, coffee grounds, or shaving cream. A parent or older sibling can call out letters or high frequency words for the child to spell.
Students and families can read or listen to e-books and design book projects.
Start a family book club. Discuss the book together.
Explore print and language in the real world. (newspaper articles, recipes, e-books, cereal boxes, signs around the neighborhood) How much can your child read?
Have everyone in the family draw pictures to tell a story and then read it aloud.
Have a discussion about each family member’s favorite books. Talk about what made the books memorable and special.
Go on a word hunt. Have your child hunt for common words or spelling patterns. How many times is “where” used? Can they find words with the “spr-” pattern?
