Event Description: What is a BioBlitz?
It’s a collaborative, community effort to document biodiversity! Our goal is to work together to find and identify the plants and animals at Cool Spring. Whether you’re an experienced naturalist or simply enjoy a morning outdoors, you’re invited to help us document our local species.
Using your smartphone, you’ll walk the trails and capture detailed photos of the plants and animals you find. By uploading your observations to iNaturalist.org, you’ll be helping the Virginia Master Naturalists and Shenandoah University record the biodiversity at this historic location alongside the Shenandoah River.

Event Description: Shenandoah University's McCormick Civil War Institute will host a discussion with author/historian Valerie Still, author of the forthcoming book Still Family: William Still and the Legacy of the Underground Railroad (University Press of Kentucky). Valerie Still is a descendant of William Still, one of the Underground Railroad's most significant figures. In addition to being a historian, Valerie is the all-time leading scorer in basketball (men's or women's) at the University of Kentucky. She played basketball professionally and coached in the WNBA.

Event Description: Take a break from the screen and reconnect with yourself, others, and the outdoors at our Digital Detox at Cool Spring River Campus! Turn in your cell phone for a little while and choose your own way to recharge with activities like yoga, a waterfall hike, nature journaling, biking, crafting, and outdoor recreational sports.
Free lunch will be provided from 12:00–1:00 PM, and students can earn Beyond the Classroom credit for participating.
Put down the phone. Pick up an experience. Come unplug, get outside, and give your mind a well-deserved reset!
