From Mrs. Goshe's Desk
It has been a spirited week! Let us pray for all our students for safety, fun, and virtue over this Homecoming weekend. Let us also pray for Pope Leo for recovery from surgery and a postive prognosis.
Our next Mariansit LIFE Night, Faith can be TRICKY but it is always a TREAT, is Wednesday, October 28 from 6-8pm in the LRC. Please see the flyer for the details.
Will you please consider donating some snacks to Campus Ministry? If you are able to donate any individual bags of chips, granola bars, or fruit snacks, that would be appreciated.
Campus Ministry will be offering OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) right here at STVM for students who want to learn more about the Catholic faith and explore what it means to be part of the Catholic Church. It is every other Wednesday during the lunch/innovation block. If interested, please email me so I can create a Minga pass for you for this time. Please see the section "Curious About Catholicism" to learn all the details.
Sophomore retreat forms were due October 8. Here is a link to the permission slip if yours was lost. Please turn it in right away. Sophomores and their parents please remember to not schedule anything on Thursday, October 22, for Sophomore Service Retreat Day. Retreat is a mandatory part of our curriculum and those without a doctors note for not attending will have additional service hours and an essay to complete.
We have a couple new prayer opportunities listed in this newsletter. Please check those out.
We have 10 tickets for students to attend CLE 21:6 on January 9 at John Carroll University. The cost is $40 per person. Myself and Mrs. Cooper will accompany these 10 students. If you/your child would like to attend, please email Mrs. Cooper right away.
Seniors who are interested in the University of Dayton, there is a great Marianist Leader Scholar Program Application below that will allow you to get $5000 scholarship over 4 years. Check out the info below.
Peace and prayers,
Mrs. Goshe
Director of Campus Ministry
Seniors and Juniors, I wanted to share the Kairos Retreat dates for the 2026-27 school year. They are as follows:
Kairos 55 (Seniors Only) – November 8-11, 2026 -Application Deadline: October 9, 2026 - Applications for this Retreat CLOSED
Kairos 56 (Juniors & Seniors) – January 17-20, 2027 - Application Deadline: December 11, 2026
Kairos 57 (Juniors & Seniors) – March 30-April 2, 2027 - Application Deadline: March 5, 2027
Here is the Kairos Application. I wanted to share that the cost at Loyola Retreat House, where we hold Kairos, has increased. This means that our student cost to attend retreat has also had to increase. The cost will now be $300. This increase covers the cost of the retreat house and the meals. The extra things like transportation, t-shirts, and supplies will be covered by STVM. If a student wants to attend but is in need of scholarship to cover some of the cost, a parent or guardian should reach out to Mrs. Goshe.
Come explore. Come ask. Come as you are.
Every other Wednesday, during lunch and innovation block, and will continue until Easter.
Campus Ministry will be offering OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults) right here at STVM for students who want to learn more about the Catholic faith and explore what it means to be part of the Catholic Church.
This will take place during Innovation and/or lunch on Wednesdays in the Campus Ministry Office beginning in October.
Maybe you have questions about Catholic beliefs, prayer, Scripture, the Sacraments, or why Catholics do what we do.
Maybe you’ve been thinking about becoming Catholic—or you’re just curious and want to learn more.
This is a place for all of those questions.
Throughout the meetings, we’ll talk about the Catholic faith, the Bible, prayer, the Mass, the Sacraments, and what it means to live a life of faith.
And if, along the way, you decide that you would like to become Catholic or receive Sacraments to be a full member of the Catholic faith, you can prepare to receive the Sacraments you have not yet received—including Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation.
There is no pressure and no expectation that you have to become Catholic or receive a Sacrament if you attend. OCIA is first and foremost a chance to learn, ask questions, and explore your faith in a welcoming environment.
If you’re curious, interested, or even just have a lot of questions about the Catholic faith, we’d love to have you.
If interested in attending or have any questions - please email Mrs. Goshe right away.
Each year, class retreats are an important part of the STVM experience and provide students with dedicated time to grow in faith, strengthen relationships, and reflect alongside their classmates. Please note that retreat dates are subject to change, but we wanted to share them now so families can begin planning ahead.
Current retreat dates are:
Sophomore Retreat: Thursday, October 22
Freshman Retreat: Friday, January 8
Junior Retreat: Tuesday, February 23
Class retreats take place during normal school hours and attendance is required. Please mark these dates on your calendar to help ensure your student is able to participate in their retreat experience.
Parent letters and permission slips will be sent out as we get closer to each retreat date.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Goshe.
We’re excited to have two new opportunities for students to grow in prayer each week!
Tuesdays: Student-led Rosary in Latin during 2nd Innovation in the Chapel
Fridays: Student-led Divine Mercy Chaplet during 2nd Innovation in the Chapel
All students are welcome to join us for either opportunity!

We are excited to offer an opportunity for 10 STVM students to attend CLE 2:16, a dynamic one-day youth conference hosted by the Diocese of Cleveland’s Office of Youth Ministry, with Mrs. Goshe and Mrs. Cooper!
Each year, CLE 2:16 highlights a different Scripture passage. The 2027 theme is Mittite Rete: Cast the Net, inspired by John 21:6.
This vibrant gathering brings together high school students from across the Diocese of Cleveland for a day of faith, community, and fun! Students will have the opportunity to deepen their faith, encounter the joy of Christ, and celebrate what it means to be part of the Young Church. The fabulous Mari Pablo is the keynote speaker this year. See their website for more information.

The next Marianist LIFE Night meeting is Wednesday October 28, 2026 at 6 p.m. in the LRC. The meetings start with a meal for students to gather in fellowship with their classmates and we need your help to continue this highlight of our gatherings! Please consider joining our Parent Meal Ministry. We need volunteers to serve and help prepare food and/or provide cash/food donations each month. Click here for the October SignUp. Please contact Angie Mosher at angie.mosher@gmail.com with any questions. All are welcome!
We welcome anyone who would like to get involved with the Marianist LIFE Meal Ministry! Each month, a group of parents puts together a meal for the students to enjoy before their meeting. Here's a great article in the Marianist publication Alive, about how the brothers provide meals and fellowship to students at Marianist-sponsored universities, including the popular spaghetti dinners at the University of Dayton. Our meal ministry here at STVM is similar in spirit!
We are blessed to have Angie Mosher take over the leadership of this incredible ministry for our students. Please reach out to Angie at angie.mosher@gmail.com to join this year's group, be put on the monthly SignUp mailing list or if you have any questions.
SUPPLY SNACKS: for our Campus Ministry Office (granola bars, bags of chips, and fruit snacks are wildly popular). Please consider sending us a box or two of granola bars, etc. Donations may be dropped off to the Main Office; please clearly label for Campus Ministry. THANK YOU!
DONATE CASH/FOOD: for Marianist LIFE Nights. Email Angie Mosher if interested.

Pope Leo's New Encyclical!!
In Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo urges us to help young Catholics stay “profoundly human” in the AI era: “the splendor of which no machine can ever replace” (15). In the digital world, youth need discernment (96) so platforms do not become tools of dominance or excessive distraction (136). Youth ministry must continue to “cultivate relationships,” preserving “physical presence” and “genuine closeness” (239). Technology can serve as an instrument of “growth, justice, and fraternity” (180), with education in “digital sobriety” to protect inner freedom (170). Finally, we are to call young people to become “weavers of hope” as the Holy Spirit brings about a “civilization of love in our lives” (245). Read the encyclical HERE.
Podcast of Bishop's Pastoral Letter
Have you had a chance to read Bishop Edward Malesic’s first pastoral letter, “A Flourishing Apostolic Church?” If not, you can listen to it as a podcast by clicking HERE. Six episodes, ranging in length from just over nine to 15½ minutes, were recorded by the bishop. The document, released in December 2024, encourages the faithful of the Diocese of Cleveland to spend at least 15 minutes daily in prayer, to worship/celebrate the sacraments and to serve those in need.
USCCB Updated Preface
Create in Me a Pure Heart: A Pastoral Response to Pornography
The U.S. Catholic Bishops have released a new 10th anniversary preface to the Church’s response to pornography, offering fresh recommendations for parents, clergy, educators, and civil leaders on combatting porn’s influence in an age of increased social isolation and the rise of artificial intelligence.
