Christian Service Program Update for 2026-2027 School Year
As we look ahead to the 2026–2027 school year, the Christian Service requirements for students in the Classes of 2027, 2028, and 2029 will remain the same. As in past years, seniors must complete and submit all required service hours by April 1, 2027, while sophomores and juniors must complete and submit their service hours by May 1, 2027.
Students in the Classes of 2027, 2028, and 2029 will continue to follow the current Christian Service Program requirements and must complete 25 service hours each school year to fulfill the Christian Service component of their graduation requirements. Students in these classes may continue to complete service hours throughout the summer, as they have done in previous years.
If your student did not complete their Christian Service requirement for the 2025–2026 school year, those hours should be finished by the end of this summer. Mrs. Cooper will meet with any students who are still behind during the first week or two of the new school year. Please watch for communication regarding those meetings as the school year begins.
We are also excited to share that the Class of 2030 will be the first group of students to participate in our newly redesigned Christian Service Program at St. Vincent–St. Mary High School.
This updated program has been thoughtfully created to provide students with more meaningful and accessible service opportunities that are integrated into the school day and throughout the school year. Rooted in our Catholic mission and inspired by Matthew 25 — “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” — this new approach is designed to help students better understand the importance of serving others with compassion, humility, and purpose.
Because of this new structure, students in the Class of 2030 will:
Have a reduced service-hour requirement compared to previous classes.
Complete their service requirements during school hours throughout the school year.
There is nothing that students or families in the Class of 2030 need to complete over the summer regarding service hours.
We are excited to launch this new initiative with our incoming freshmen and look forward to the many ways it will help students grow in faith, leadership, and service to others.
All students are expected to complete 25 service hours during this academic year. Please see STVM’s requirement for Christian Service Hours in the STVM Course Catalog. Service hours are due in the spring, by April 1 for seniors or by May 1 for juniors, sophomores and freshmen. Seniors are expected to complete at least 20 of those hours off campus at local non-profit organizations or with other non-STVM related groups, and Juniors are expected to complete at least 15 hours off campus. Sophomores are expected to complete at least 10 hours off campus, and Freshmen are expected to complete at least 5 hours off campus. Hours must be logged in MobileServe and verified by a supervisor. Please follow these steps:
Log into MobileServe.com using your STVM/Google credentials. Freshman and transfer students will receive an email in their inbox from TeamMobileServe that will help them claim their account.
If it is your first time logging in (transfers and freshmen), the website will ask you for a School Code, but you can just "skip this" step.
Please enter a phone number in MobileServe as a way to verify your identity.
On the home screen, there is a big blue button that will lead you to a few questions about any service hours you do.
It is important that you provide an email address for the person supervising your service. MobileServe will ask you for that email as you log your service hours. The supervisor will then receive an email from MobileServe asking them to verify your service hours. As you log your hours, you should also be double checking your MobileServe account to make sure the hours have been verified.
We recommend entering your service hours as you complete them throughout the year so that supervisors will receive verification requests right after you complete your service, not months later when they may not recall the details. The whole process works best when supervisors can verify hours in a timely fashion.
We will be checking once service hours are due to confirm that each student’s service hours have been verified.
Please email or see Mrs. Cooper in the Campus Ministry Office if you have any questions.
The Mighty Vincent Project is a local service initiative that connects students and families with meaningful volunteer opportunities throughout the Akron area, with the goal of serving those in need while building community and awareness of local nonprofits.
This year, STVM has signed up for two small-group volunteer opportunities through the Mighty Vincent Project. There are only 10 volunteer slots for each opportunity.
The first is with First Glance, a nonprofit that supports children and families in need by providing essential resources and a safe, welcoming environment. Students will assist with cleaning and organizing the children’s toy room on Saturday, September 19th from 10:00–12:00 PM.
The second opportunity is with Homeless Charity and Village (Akron), a local organization that serves individuals and families experiencing homelessness through meals and supportive services. Students will help serve lunch and assist with additional on-site projects on Saturday, September 19th, from 11:00 AM–2:00 PM.
Students who are interested in participating can complete this Google Form to indicate interest. Please note that this form does not reserve a spot; it simply helps us gauge participation. A follow-up email will be sent later with the official Mighty Vincent Project link and password, which will allow students to sign up directly for the group opportunities STVM has reserved.
These opportunities are open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the service sights. Mrs. Goshe and Mrs. Cooper will be serving as chaperones for both experiences.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Cooper.
The Salvation Army has year-round volunteer opportunities and are always looking for more help! There are two locations - one in Akron and one in Canton.
They provide vital support to individuals and families in need through services like food distribution, emergency assistance, shelter, and community outreach programs. Volunteers play an important role in making this work possible—whether by helping organize donations, serving meals, or assisting with community programs.

Then scroll down to "Apply" under "First Time Volunteers" if they have never volunteered here before.
Select the corresponding application based on their age and fill it out (students under 15 need to come with an adult to volunteer).
After filling out the application and hitting "Submit," go here and hit "More" under the "Returning Volunteer" section.
From there, students can login with their username and password they created on their application and select what date and time they would like to volunteer based on their availability.

Serenity Hospice is looking for compassionate student volunteers to serve in a variety of meaningful ways.
Students can volunteer in person by spending time with residents and assisting with activities and special events, or they can serve from home by writing cards and letters to brighten residents’ days.
This is a wonderful opportunity to bring comfort and joy to others while completing Christian Service hours.
