From my acceptance into the MAET program to now, what progress have I made as an educator and student learning the ideas of education technology? Did I live up to the goals I set for myself a year ago?
After completing my bachelor's degree and my first year of teaching, I knew I wanted to further my education. I decided to apply to the MSU Educational Technology (MAET) masters program and live out my dreams of becoming a Spartan. Throughout my teacher preparation program and first year of teaching, I learned how to work with technology due to the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. This transition of learning to focus on incorporating more digital technology into my teaching practices and redesigning the way I viewed the role of technology in education. As a result, I decided to pursue a degree in Educational Technology to continue to transform the use of technology in my practice.
Goal 1
To integrate more digital technology into my teaching practice in meaningful ways.
When thinking about this goal, I wanted to learn more about using technology and how to incorporate it into my classroom correctly. Before this goal, I was doing this but wanted to find ways to do this more effectively for my student's learning process. I wanted to understand how to bring digital technology into the classroom to enhance my student's learning experience through different applications, resources, and devices.
Goal 2
To gain new insight into technology to make my teaching more effective
This goal is to learn more about technology from a teacher's point of view to help me become more effective with these tools. I was inspired by my school district technology coach and prior training I had done with Google Classroom for Education to further my knowledge of technology and its roles in the classroom. I wanted to discover how technology could benefit me as a teacher, design engaging lessons and be more efficient with my practice.
Reflection
Looking back at more goals, I am still working on reaching them, and my aspirations are still the same. When I made these goals, I set out to discover how digital technology can aid my students' learning process. Throughout my time in the MAET program, I have learned valuable content that has helped me understand the role of technology in the classroom. I am still striving to continue learning from my MAET courses and personal learning network to expand my knowledge as an educator and student.
I want to continue to grow my skills with educational technology. In a 21 century society, technology is constantly transforming. As the world of digital technology changes, we must adapt and grow to understand its role in all aspects of life. The use of technology helps students use it in a variety of ways that helps to make technology more beneficial for students and educators. It is vital to ensure the use of technology for students to aid them in reaching their full potential as learners. The skills are lifelong, and they can build on them. For that reason, I plan to keep working towards these goals to grow my skills as the driving force behind my aspirations and use technology to the fullest.Â
