These are the course that I have taken through Michigan State University's Master of Art in Education Technology (MAET) program. The courses below are listed chronologically and organized by the semester I took them. For each semester, I have provided the course title, instructor, and a brief description of my experience in each course within the CEP: Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Special Education courses in the MAET program.
During this semester, the Mindsets for Innovation Hybrid course, three classes were within six weeks in a hybrid format, four weeks online, and two weeks in-person on MSU’s campus. Warren Berger’s book, A More Beautiful Question, was the driving force behind the concepts discussed throughout the course. I learned about questioning, creativity, and the importance of technology inside and outside the classroom. Along with the aspects of the design thinking process, the course taught me how to rethink the role of technology with perspective at the forefront. The blog posts, projects, QuickFires, and other assignments helped reinforce these ideas with the teacher and student experience in mind.
In CEP 818, I took on the complex idea of presidential influence as my theme to apply the design ideas throughout the semester. The concepts in the Sparks of Genius book helped support the ideas of creativity to drive me to l perspectives. Throughout the course, I analyzed the concept of presidential influence through perceiving, patterning, abstracting, embodied thinking, modeling, and play. I understood how the role of creativity belongs in the classroom and how it transforms the concept into meaningful learning experiences for students and teachers.
In CEP 822, I improved my research skills on the role of education. Throughout this course, I learned the essential skills of education research with survey design, interviewing, and researching online. These skills combined quantitative and qualitative research techniques to help me understand how to conduct research and evaluate resources properly. I took what I learned in the course and incorporated it into my practice to help my students become better researchers.
In CEP 800, the concepts of learning theories were the backbone of creating my personal theory of learning. Throughout the course, this philosophy of my ideas was revised and altered by the concepts of different learning theories. My creation brought the ideas of how people can learn in and out of school environments to the limelight. It takes this idea and showcases how it transforms from behavior and socialization, from novices to experts, various learning activities, and more. I was able to understand how these learning theories impact learners and the process of learning.
In CEP 817, the main focus was understanding the fundamental concepts of the design thinking process and problem-solving, finding a solution to a problem. I wanted to find a creative way to bring engagement back to my social studies classroom for my students as my problem of practice. Throughout the course, I analyzed the concepts of empathy, define, ideate, prototype, and test to create a 1950s road trip comparison simulation. Working through each stage of the semester allowed for reflection and revisions of the design thinking process to make a well-rounded solution.
In CEP 813, the idea of electronic assessments allowed me to reflect on the assessments used in my classroom and create new ones with various structures and techniques. Analyzing our initial beliefs about assessment transformed our ideas from the concepts we read and discussed. These new concepts transformed ideas as new assessments were created, strengthening them. I could reflect on my out teaching practice and gain strategy and methods to make them the best digital assessments possible.
In CEP 820, I worked on building digital creations for online learning. This class let me think about what students need when learning online from the perspective of the learner and the teacher. Each unit focused on taking a concept and then applying it to my digital creations meaningfully for my student's learning. These ideas helped demonstrate how the ideas and practices of online learning can be implemented constructively.
In CEP 807, I gathered all of my coursework to create this online portfolio. Within the pages of this website, I have selected the creations that demonstrate my learning. This portfolio showcases my coursework, future plans, thoughts about education and technology, and more. I reflected on my journey as a learner at MSU and as a teacher to design the best representation of my year in the program.
