PAT Info

The government of Alberta states that the purpose of the Provincial Achievement Testing program are as follows:

  • Determine if students are learning what they are expected to learn
  • Report to Albertans how well students have achieved provincial standards at given points in their schooling
  • Assist schools, authorities, and the province in monitoring and improving student learning

The Math 9 PAT is broken up into two components:

  • Part A: 20 questions; numerical response (30 mins.)
  • Part B: 40 questions; 32 MC & 8 NR (80 mins.)

Students are NOT permitted to use a calculator for Part A. Calculators are permitted for Part B.

Part A accounts for 20% of the PAT mark, while Part B accounts for 80% of the PAT mark.
