Educational Development Plan

Career Cruising is a user friendly program to assist students with career exploration and career planning. Every student in the Walled Lake schools is introduced to Career Cruising starting in 7th grade. Students create a username and password to allow them to access www.careercruising.com. Each year they build and develop their own Educational Development Plan (EDP) using assessment tools and assignments provided for each grade level in Career Cruising through their 12th grade year.

By 11th grade, students will have had the opportunity to search 100’s of occupation profiles in Career Cruising as well as save at least 2 careers that interest them to their EDP. One of the features of interest for students is the ability of Career Cruising to help with post high school education planning. Through Career Cruising, students can explore tech schools, 2 year colleges, 4 year universities, and the military by accessing college and university profiles. Students can identify schools that fit their needs, compare schools, and plan for college. In addition, they can search for college scholarships and private financial aid programs, or they can read more about Federal financial aid programs. For all students, the information stored in their EDP is available to help with the college application process, scholarship application process, requests for letters of recommendation, resume building, and job searching.

The EDP is a requirement for graduation in Walled Lake Schools. Each summer, Walled Lake high school students are required to update their EDP as a part of the summer registration process. During this time, they have the opportunity to add to their EDP by completing required grade level assignments.
