Supporting Science

How Parents Can Support Science

While the best resource is an encouraging parent who provides high expectations and supportive structures, the following ideas will help with science specifically:

  • encourage children to ask questions about the natural world

  • talk about science topics: natural phenomena (e.g. the weather and living things) and engineered solutions (e.g. medicine and technology)

  • ask questions like “what would happen if…?”

  • encourage boys and girls equally to use scientific thinking

  • seek opportunities to explore science at home and in the community

  • invite your child to explain what they are learning in science class

  • visit nature often
