Viand Diner: - A Dime in NYC
New York City has always been known for its diversity in culture, and with that comes thousands of different meals to choose from. Viand Diner, located on 75th and Broadway, a beacon theater affiliate is a safe choice for anyone looking for a hefty meal and an enjoyable atmosphere. The Greek-owned restaurant, with two other locations scattered across Manhattan, has been serving locals for over 30 years and counting. This location is my favorite dining establishment because of its simplicity, speed, and comforting atmosphere. Their static menu, which offers a wide variety of foods to choose from, includes food items from smoothies to their infamous meatloaf. There's always something that catches my eyes. Though on the pricier side, it's definitely worth a try.
Coming from the muggy 80° weather, stepping into this establishment quickly woke me up with a chill of cold air. This fairly large restaurant offers many different seating options, those includinge table seating, booths, and outdoor seating. They take priority in the safety of their customers by including plexiglass dividers between all tables, making this a very COVID safe experience for all. A greeting from the manager is always expected, and as I entered, I started a search for my already seated guests. Finding my table was a search for my family members, a long-awaited reunion, but it didn't take long until I found them, sat down, and was provided a glass of water to quench my thirst. The waiters are all dressed the same in a white collared shirt, dark blue pants, and a waist apron, showing a sense of organization amongst the staff. It didn't take long for us to decide what to eat, and the server came at the perfect time. I decided on the usual: scrambled eggs, french fries, and toast. Something simple but never disappoints. The servers are always on their feet, filling guests' glasses when needed at the perfect time, and the diners seemed pleased with the service.
As we chatted amongst ourselves to the frequent noise of clattering dishes, we were introduced to by the owner of the restaurant, a friend of our family since before I could speak. Catching up with these guys is always really refreshing, and makes us feel like part of the Viand community.
As we waited for the food, I took notice of the big collection of sauces they had to offer, ranging from hot sauces to salad dressings. When I went to use the bathroom, I was met with a slight dilemma. The thin hallway leading to both the bathroom and kitchen is crowded and can also be a possible fire hazard. I went into the farther, smaller bathroom which was overwhelmingly tiny as usual, there were paper towels on the floor, it was definitely not an ideal experience, but doable.
When I arrived back at the table, my food was there and water-filled back up; I was prepared to feast. Fluffy perfectly cooked scrambled eggs served with a side of crispy homemade french fries and four pieces of white toast with mini jars of butter and jam was the perfect meal for a warm Saturday morning. The ambiance of Viand made for an excellent all-around experience.
I highly recommend Viand to anyone looking for a quality experience. This is the restaurant I can go to on a daily basis and never get tired of because of its static menu. The consistency in the menu contributes to its community, keeping the food we know and love. They've embraced their style over the years, providing a casual experience and quick service to their customers, which is deeply valued when seeking to dine somewhere. Viand has a strong sense of community, embracing my family, and newcomers, with greetings at the entrance and a short conversation about life. If you're willing to pay a slightly pricey fee, you will have an experience you won't regret. I give Viand Diner 4.5 stars out of 5, the food is always delicious, service is good and quick, the only problem is the small bathroom and price, but regardless, this joint is still worth a visit.
