The Arctic

The frozen water and mountains in the arctic

About the Arctic

Did you know that around 10% of the Earth’s water is in ice in the Arctic? The Arctic is the northernmost region on Earth, and is found in Scandinavia, Canada, Russia, Greenland, and Alaska. They have long freezing winters with an average of -30 degrees, and short cold summers that go to around 35-55 degrees. Some remarkable features that you can find are dramatically tall mountains, large bodies of water filled with tons of fascinating wildlife, interesting ice formations, ice glaciers, and much more. According to https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/, “Because of the Earth’s tilt, for at least one day a year there’s an entire day of darkness in this freezing region.”

About the Arctic Fox

Arctic foxes can have up to two litters in a season. The arctic fox is a fascinating animal that weighs around 3-21 lbs. Males weigh around 7-21 lbs, and females weigh around 3-7. Like many other animals in cold climates, their thick fur protects them from the harsh climate of the arctic. Their fur is white in the winter, and dark grey-ish in the summer. Arctic foxes prefer to eat lemmings, although they are willing to eat practically anything they find if they’re having a difficult time finding food. Their lifespan generally ranges from 3-6 years in the wild, and around 7-10 years in captivity.
